20 August 2008 Joschka Fischer elaborates on energy policy

Joschka Fischer, former Foreign Minister of Germany and intellectual leader of the German Green Party, has confirmed his participation at Global Energy Basel. His conference speech will focus on political framework conditions for renewable energy and energy efficiency. To find practical solutions against climate change is one of Fischer’s main preoccupations – as it is that of Global Energy Basel and its participants.
Fischer was elected to the first Green Party Fraction to serve in the federal German parliament in 1983. In December 1985 he was sworn in as the first ever Green Party Minister in the federal state of Hesse where he held the portfolios of the Environment and Energy. He held tenure as Germany's Foreign Minister and vice chancellor from 1998 to 2005. |
